Orangetheory Fitness was founded by Ellen Latham, David Long, David Hardy, Dominic Sauer, and Jerome Kern in 2010, with David Long listed as CEO. It is a privately owned fitness franchise founded and headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. There are approximately 1,000 independently owned locations and counting. The Orangetheory Fitness workout is designed from experience, science and technology to spend at least 12 minutes ore more in what is called the Orange Zone, where a person’s heart rate is between 84 to 91% of his or her heart rate maximum. Co-founder Ellen Latham has been featured on The Doctors discussing how this works. As of 2017, Orangetheory had 728 studios in 16 countries and was in 45 of the United States, while being on track to have 900 studios by the end of the year. The group workout classes vary, each with a specific target goal, such as endurance or strength. Classes are high-intensity interval training, known as HIIT, and are 60 minutes long. Class participants wear heart rate monitors that are tracked on screens throughout the studio. Customers new to Orangetheory get their first class free and includes a meeting with a team member to discuss fitness goals, any orthopedic issues, explanation of how the class works, guidelines based on current fitness level, and what to aim for during the workout. After the first class, you’ll receive your results in a workout summary and you’ll feel the difference. Memberships are month to month with freeze privileges and a quit-free guarantee. Orange Premier membership is available for six months and offers unlimited classes. Orange Elite membership offers eight classes per month with additional sessions available at a discounted rate and is also available for six months.
