AmeriPlan is a discount medical plan company founded in 1992. Initially, it only offered members discounts on dental services fees but expanded to provide savings on other services such as vision and chiropractic. AmeriPlan is not health insurance and therefore does not exclude any pre-existing conditions other than not covering ongoing orthodontic treatment. It offers reduced fees for many services contracted at participating providers and lower prices for prescription medications. Payment for any product or service is due at the time of service. AmeriPlan is available in most states except for Alaska, Vermont, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, North and South Dakota, Rhode Island, and Hawaii – not including the island of Oahu. It also is not offered in Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. AmeriPlan offers two different plans. The Dental Plus Membership is $24.95 monthly to cover all persons permanently resident in a household. There is an additional registration fee of twenty dollars for the first month. The Deluxe Plus Membership is $39.95 monthly for an entire household plus a registration fee of thirty dollars for the first month. Both Membership plans offer savings on dental, vision, prescription drugs, chiropractic services, wellness screenings, and audiology. There are also discounts on non-medical products at retailers such as Office Depot and Dell Computers. The Deluxe Plus offers some additional services such as Telemedicine. Telemedicine allows the member 24-hour access to physicians by phone or email. In some cases, it can be substituted for office visits, and the attending doctor can provide prescriptions.
